William J. Witter Johnson

William J Witter Johnson, 63, formerly of 60 West Main Street, passed away Monday (May 30, 2011) at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bath.
Born in Hornell, January 22, 1948, the son of Otto and Ruth Ribble Witter, he had resided in Syracuse for a short time and in the Hornell-Canisteo area the rest of his life. He was a graduate of Hornell High School, and had been employed at the former Sherwin Williams Store in Hornell and later at the Value Home Center. He was a member of the Canisteo Valley Assembly of God where he was very involved in the Teen Ministry and the operation of the food pantry of the church.
He is survived by his former wife, Linda Johnson of Syracuse, a dear friend, Zelda Pursley, one half brother and 3 half sisters including Cathy Miller of Hornell, His sister, Patricia (Murray) Hanchett of Hornell, 2 nieces, Theresa (Aarron) Alexander, and Ginny Sheridan both of Hornell, 3 nephews, Mike (Chris) Sheridan of North Carolina, Thomas Sheridan of Hornell and Murray Hanchett Jr. of Hornell, great nieces and great nephews.

There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Monday at 7 PM at the Canisteo Valley Assembly of God, Rev. Matthew Sassano officiating. Burial will be in Hornell Rural Cemetery.
