William J. Rahmlow, 84, formerly of 27 Washington St, Hornell and 12 ½ Ward Place, Geneseo, passed away Sunday (March 6, 2011) at the Hornell Gardens.
Born in Hornell, July 7, 1926, the son of Frank and Eleanor (Rose) Rahmlow, he had resided in Hornell until moving to Geneseo in 1948. William was a graduate of the Hornell High School Class of 1944 and served his country in the United States Navy, serving in WWII. After discharge, he worked for the Market Basket in Hornell as well as the Red and White and Star Markets. William also worked as the assistant manager for the Bell Grocery of Geneseo until retiring in 1991. A kind and generous person with a ready smile, he was known for paying the entire grocery order of customers who'd fallen on hard times.
He was predeceased by his parents, sisters, Frances Wizeman, Virginia Wright and Margaret Rahmlow, brothers, Robert, Donald and Frank Rahmlow Jr.
He is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Andrews and Marilyn Hawkins both of Hornell, brothers, Raymond (Betty) Rahmlow of Hornell and Richard (Ann) Rahmlow of Conn., several nieces and nephews, and a lifelong friend Marjorie Fasano of Retsof.

The family will be present receive friends on Saturday (March 12, 2011) from 1PM until 2PM at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 2PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
