William W. Ide, 95, of Canisteo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (August 26, 2026) at Elderwood at Hornell. Bill was born July 13, 1931 in Almond the son of Harry and Viola VanOrman Ide. He had resided most all his life in the Almond, Alfred and Canisteo area. Bill was a graduate of Alfred Almond Central School and had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.
Bill owned and operated Ide's Grocery Store in Alfred for several years, and later retired from working at Crowley's Dairy in Arkport. After retirement, he was employed as a meat cutter for Wilson's Beef Farm in Canaseraga until the ripe old age of 83 declaring "I have worked enough in my life".
Bill loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Vicky, his sisters, Harriett Jay, Phyllis Drake, Patricia Fairchild, and Shirley Sisson, as well as his brother Johnny Ide.
Surviving are his daughters, Barbara Hurd of Hornell, Laurie (Tom Stuart ) Hurd of Canisteo and his sons, Eric (Tammy) Ide of Burns, and Jason Ide of Tennessee. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors on September 18, 2026 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Almond at 1:00 PM. Rev. Tony Ross will officiate.
The family is being assisted by Brown & Powers Funeral Homes of Canisteo.
