William Grahl Davidson, 82, of Franklin, NC, died on April 5, 2011. He was born on March 29, 1929, in Chicago, IL He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Gayle Reed Draper Davidson and brother, Paul Gorrell Davidson. He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Lynne Davidson of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and a son, Mark William (Mary) Davidson of Hornell, NY and a grand-daughter Kristin Davidson.



Mr. Davidson was a member of the United States Army during the Korean War, serving in a special security unit as part of "Operation Grable", one of our early nuclear deterrent programs.



Mr. Davidson earned a BA degree in Economics and Business Administration from Cornell College and an MBA degree in Finance from The University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business. He worked in banking at the Harris Trust & Savings Bank in Chicago and at the Allstate Insurance Company where he was Regional Controller in Roanoke, Virginia, and was a computer and financial specialist at IBM. Mr. Davidson spent much of his thirty years at IBM in financial management and as a Senior Financial Analyst. He represented IBM around the nation and world.



Mr. Davidson was a life-long member of the Methodist Church where. He held offices such as Lay Leader, Sunday school teacher, Chairman of the Administrative Board, Finance Chairman, and Trustee President. He also held leadership roles in the Chicago Jaycees and the YMCA in Westchester Co., NY. He and his son, during the same ceremony, both received their black belts in Taekwondo Karate at Taekwondo national headquarters in New York City. He served as President of the Franklin Lions, Treasurer of the Sons of the American Revolution, President of the Mill Creek Men's Golf Association and Treasurer of the Mill Creek Homeowner's Association.

Upon retiring from IBM, Mr. Davidson moved to the Franklin, NC area.

The family will be present to receive friends from 10AM until 11AM on Saturday (May 7, 2011) at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St. Hornell. A memorial service will follow calling at 11AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Springston officiating. Mr. Davidson's final resting place will be in Franklin, NC, next to his wife. All are invited to join the family immediately following the service at the Hornell Moose Lodge for a time of fellowship and remembrance.



In lieu of flowers friends are encouraged to make memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Davidson to the Faith in Action of Steuben County, PO Box 117, Hornell, NY 14843 or to the Hornell United Methodist Church, 7528 North Main St. Ext. Hornell, NY 14843.
