William "Bill" R. Mess
Hornell
William R. Mess, 78, of 57 Jane Street, passed away peacefully, Friday (December 16, 2016) at his home with his family at his side.
Born in Hornell, June 16, 1938, the son of Stanley and Lucille (Robinson) Mess, he was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Hornell High School. He retired from the former JCPenney Store, after 40 years as the stock manager. Bill was a New York Yankees fan, enjoyed bowling, and was an accomplished painter.
He was predeceased by his parents as well as a son William P. Mess in 1981.
He is survived by his wife Jane Gillette Mess, whom he married on June 16, 1962, he is also survived by his daughter Rebecca (Colin) Curran of Hornell, his son Jason (Stacy) Mess of Hornell, his grandchildren Emalee Mess, and Lindsay Curran, his brother Edward Mess of Hornell, and his sister Joyce Woodworth of Hornell.
The family will be present 2-4pm Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell, where funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM, with the Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery in Hornell.
