Wendy L. Matacale, 62 of County Route 61, passed away unexpectedly Sunday (Jan. 21, 2024) at St. James Hospital.
Born in Hornell, October 15, 1961, the daughter of Karl and Barbara Jordan Smith, she was a graduate of Alfred Almond Central School, Class of 1979 and had resided all her life in this area.
She had worked for several years at the former Sunset Restaurant in Hornell, and 20 years as a teacher’s aide at Alfred Almond Central School.
She was predeceased by her parents, and two brothers , Karl and Michael Smith.
Surviving are her husband, Steven Matacale to whom she had been married 35 years, her daughter, Rachel (Douglas) Sciorra of Canisteo, her son, Bradley (Tessa) Matacale of Kansas, her sister, Marcia (Belinda Root) Smith of Pennsylvania, her brothers, Keith (Carol) Smith of Hornell and David (Anne) Smith of North Carolina, her grand children, Douglas Sciorra and Olivia Sciorra, Grace Hanback, Emmett Matacale and Eleanor Matacale.
Wendy loved her family, loved to make people laugh, Knit, Gardening , Camping ,and going on there boat. Looked forward to retiring.
There will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday the 27th at 3pm at the Canisteo Wesleyan Church, 25 Greenwood Street in Canisteo with Rev. Shannon Brumfield officiating.
Friends wishing to remember Wendy, are asked to consider a memorial contribution to the Canisteo Wesleyan Church.
