Wayne D. "Doug" Mason, 78, of Turnpike Rd, passed away Tuesday (October 10, 2017) at the Bath VAMC.



Born in Bath, NY, September 17, 1939, the son of Eben C. and Wanda (Brubaker) Mason, he had resided in the Hornell area most of his life. He retired from Allied Motors as a Car Carrier. After retirement he drove bus for the Hornell Area Transit. Doug honorably served his country in the Marine Corps from 1957-1962. Doug belonged to the Hornell Moose Lodge, the AMVETS, the American Legion, the Marine Corp League, the Hornell Association and the VFW Auxiliary. He was a past national, state and chapter president of the American War Dads and a former member of Hornellsville Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons.



Doug loved traveling with his wife Joan, hunting, bowling, "The Recipe" and passing out Peppermint Patties.



He was predeceased by his parents, his foster parents Bob and Ruth Dennis, his wife, Joan (Smith) Mason, and a daughter Donna Turner, 2 brothers; Edward and Jerry Mason, a half-brother, Donald Scott and his beloved dog Jake .



He is survived by his daughter; Julie (Clarence) Granger of Canisteo, a son; Wayne (Rae Ann) Mason of Hornell, sisters; Jo Ann (Charles) Betty and Sonja (George) Beall, half-brother, Mike Scott, half-sisters; Sandy Zahn, Heather (Chris) Rachiele, Debbie Conwell and Donna (Tom) McCauley, step brothers; Steve and Dan Doll, step sister Carole Ann Beyea, grandchildren; Dustin Mason, Francesca Mason, Jill Jackson, Lida Granger, Andrew Granger, Brandie Cox, Nicole Dodson and Brittany Hunt, 13 great grandchildren, foster brothers; Tim Dennis and Steve Dennis, as well as numerous nieces nephews and cousins.



The family will be present on Friday (October 13, 2017) from 4-7PM , at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell and again on Saturday from 1-3 PM where funeral services will be held immediately following calling hours at 3PM, Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
