Walter R. Emo, 93, of 8516 State Rt. 961F, passed away Thursday (August 25, 2011) at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bath.
Born in Wayland, January 3, 1918, the son of William and Anna Kurtz Emo, he was a graduate of Wayland High School, Class of 1937. Walt's love of cooking secured his first job as a cook at St. John's Home in Rochester, and later, the Rochester State Hospital. He served his country as a member of the United States Army during WW-2, from 1940 to 1945. After the war, Walt owned a restaurant in Warsaw, where he met his current wife, the former Arlene Zeches. Later, Walt and Arlene returned to this area and purchased a farm in 1954, which they operated for several years. They became involved in several rural farm organizations especially the grange. Where they both were members of the Canisteo Grange, the State DHIC and the National DHIC.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Beatrice Last, his brothers, Wilbur , Paul and Donald Emo, and his son, Michael Emo in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Zeches Emo, to whom he married August 31, 1946, his sister, Betty Ann (George) Fox of Hamburg and , 2 grandchildren, Raymond Emo and Rachel (Jesse) Kernan, 2 great grandchildren, Stuart and Cameron Kernan.

. The family is being assisted by Gerald R. Brown, Director at Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home of Hornell.
The family will not be observing calling hours. Family and Friends may attend a funeral service at the Arkport United Presbyterian Church on Monday at 11 AM. Burial was in Rogersville Forest Lawn Cemetery in South Dansville.
