Vesta D. Rice, 85, of
131 Hornell St.,passed away Tuesday (December14, 2004) at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born in the Town of Allen, August 19, 1919, the daughter of Alton and Edna MarriottSteadman, she was a Graduate ofthe Fillmore Central School Class of 1936.
Vesta was employed as the Fillmore village clerk and schooltax collector.
On July 3,1940 she married Charles M. Rice who predeceased her on Aug. 30, 1979.
Vesta will always be known for her Holidaycandy making, her knitting, and love of bird watching
While living in Fillmore she was a communicant of St.Patrick's Church , where she served on the Rosary society.
Vesta also belonged to the Allegany County Bird Club, andwas an avid bridge player.
In 1996 Vesta moved to the Canisteo, Hornell area, where shewas a communicant of St. Joachim's Church in Canisteo.
She is survived by one daughter: Jacki(Tom) Jamison of Canisteo,
one sister: Vera ( Wilson ) Kopler ofCanandaigua,
one brother: Elwyn Steadmanof Houghton,
2 Grand Daughters, Jill ( Joe) Livingston of N. Hornell, and Julie (Joe) Donlon of Lake Wood, CO.
1Great Granddaughter, SydneyLivingston of N. Hornell, and 1 Great Grandson, Breccan Donlon
of Lake Wood, CO.
