Verna M. Miller,93, of
52 East VanScoter Street,passed away Thursday (February 2, 2006) .
Born in Belmont, May 18, 1912, the daughterof Almer and Nina Davis Morse, she had resided in Hornell since 1934. She wasa graduate of the Bryant &Stratton Business College in Buffalo and was employed as a principal clerkfor the New York State Department of Transportation in Hornell. She was a very active member of the Canisteo Wesleyan Churchwhere she had taught Sunday school, was active in the Ladies' Prayer Group, aswell as serving on the church's Board of Directors. Following her retirement from the DOT, shevisited nearly every Wesleyan Mission on 6 Continents, and actively supportedthe Foreign Missions of the Church. Shehosted several foreign students who were attending college in the area. She received the "Senior Citizen of the YearAward" in 2004, recognizing her participation in the " Ombudsman Program" ,whichinvolved visiting the elderly in rest homes, and nursing home facilities in Steuben County.
She was predeceased byher husband, Paul Miller in 1969, 3 sons,Gregory Miller in 1968, Leo Miller in 1989, and Bruce Miller in 2001, as wellas her two brothers, Burdett and Alton Morse.

She is survived by 2sons, Harry Miller of Rochesterand Brian (Shirley) Miller of Hornell, 10 grandchildren, and several great andgreat great grandchildren.
The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday from 2-4 &7-9 PM at the Bender-Brown & Powers FuneralHome, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell where funeral services will be held on Sundayat 3 :00PM. Rev. Donald Maynard will officiate. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery,Hornell.
