Verlie C. Davies, 92, of 6360 County Route 29, passed to be with her maker about 5:30 AM on Thursday (January 28, 2010) at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Roger Jimerson. She was born on December 31st, 1917 to DeWitt and Reah Whitnack Sherwood, the first of five siblings: Edward, DeWitt Jr., Joan and Charles. She lived a long, full, rich life. She graduated from Hornell High School in 1935 and had been employed as a cashier at the former Marker Basket in Hornell. She bore 2 children. She was married twice and was a great mother, enjoyed life, worked hard and loved her family. Her favorite saying was "No fun getting old, so I guess I won't".



She was predeceased by her Father and Mother, her stepmother, Edith Sherwood, her sister Joan and her brother Charles; both by her first husband, Donald E. HerrNeckar and her 2nd husband, Newton Davies, her step children Gary and Janet Davies, June (Davies) Evans and by her brother-in-law, Walt and Lucy Davies.



She is survived by her two children, Joe (Fay) HerrNeckar of Hornell and Sandra (Roger) Jimerson of Hornell, two brothers, Edward (Marg) Sherwood of Townsend, Montana, and DeWitt (Esta) Sherwood of Portland, Oregon, grandchildren, Mark Yedinak, Kirk Yedinak, Teresa HerrNeckar, Kristina HerrNeckar, Kasi HerrNeckar, Samantha HerrNeckar, Dawn (Dave) Copestick, Guy Brunner, Mary Ann McClurg, Rebecca Sprague and Betty Sue Davies.

The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday from 11AM until 1 PM at the Bender- Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St. Hornell where services will follow calling hours at 1 PM. Rev. Daniel Douglas officiating. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.



Friends may make memorial contributions to: The South Hornell Volunteer Fire Dept. or Southern Tier Hospice.
