Thurston H. Granger Jr. 77, passed away peacefully at the Batavia VA on Thursday January 23, 2025 after an extended illness.
Born in Bath on June 19, 1947, at the old Ira Davenport Hospital, He was the son of Thurston H. Granger Sr. and Bessie (Payne) Granger. Before graduating from Canisteo Central School in 1967, He Had worked for DL Fisher in Fishers Grocery on the backroad in Canisteo and for Leo Preston on a Scotts Dairy delivery truck that ran from Canisteo to Cameron Mills, which was the road past his house in Adrian.
Thurston attained the rank of Tech Sargeant in the United States Air Force with 20 years of service. After he returned to the Canisteo area, he worked as a Kitchen Supervisor at the Bath VA, retiring due to Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Thurston loved history, especially local history as well as hunting and fishing. Due to several health issues, he became interested and well-studied in the healing power of herbs, making his own tinctures. If someone mentioned an ailment, he knew how to cure it, even curing himself of Lymphoma. His wishes were to return home and cure himself of lung cancer, but there wasn’t time. he lived just 2 weeks after being diagnosed.
Thurston is survived by 4 Daughters, Teresa (Scott)Tessari of Colorado, Lynn (Clint)Wood and Jennie (Nelson)Velasquez both of Texas, Mary (Paul) Le of Nebraska, and 10 Grandchildren He is also survived by 2 sisters, Marlene (Donald)Guild of Cameron, Sharon Brady of Hornell. One brother Clarence (Julie)Granger of Canisteo. He was Predeceased by his Parents. He was blessed with an “adopted” family who were there when ”Pops” needed them, Adam, Kara, Trinity, and Barron Daley, his neighbors.
As per Thurston’s wishes there are no calling hours or Funeral. A memorial service is being planned for late spring. The burial will be in Adrian in his back yard.
