Thomas E. Griffin, 56, of 8809 Bailey Hill Road, passed away Tuesday (August 19, 2014) at the Hornell Gardens after a 2 ½ year courageous battle with Melanoma.



Born in North Hornell, February 27, 1958, the son of Franklin E. and Joyce (Coller) Griffin, he was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Hornell High School, and later Alfred State College. Tom was in the Marine Corps from 1976-1980, and the National Guard from 1982-1989. He owned and operated Griffin's Total Lawn Care from 1984-2012, and worked for H&R Block in Hornell for 20 years, as a tax preparer and office manager. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hornell. Tom was an avid outdoorsmen, enjoying fishing, hunting, and gardening. He also enjoyed cooking, and canning, but the most enjoyment he got out of life was his family.



He was predeceased by his mother Joyce Griffin in 2006.



He is survived by his wife Linda Stever Griffin, whom he married on April 16, 1983, his father Franklin E. Griffin of Hornell, his 3 daughters Hilary Griffin of WA, Carly Griffin of PA, and Ashley Griffin of Arkport, a sister Audrey (John) Wilder of Liverpool, 2 brothers Robert (Kelly) Griffin of Hornell, David Griffin of WA, brother in law Al (Jean) Stever of Arkport, sister in law Irene Lander of Delevan, several nieces and nephews, and many many friends.



The family will be present 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday, August 21, 2014, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell, where funeral services will be held on Friday, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport.
