Thomas "Tommy" C. Ames, 35, passed away unexpectedly Monday (April 16, 2012) .



Born in Hornell, December 13, 1976, he was the son of Thomas C. Ames I and Sharon G. Ames . He was a 1995 graduate of Arkport Central School and a member of the Arkport Sons of the American Legion. He previously worked at Genesee County Speedway and most recently at the South Arcade Speedway. In the past, he also worked as a Dirt Track Digest reporter, and for two years at the Blueberry Hill Farms in Hornell. Tommy was an avid dirt racing fan and writer for the sport as well as a huge NASCAR fan. He loved the outdoors including fishing, hunting, and camping. Tommy was a huge San Francisco 49ers fan, loved to cook, and most recently, enjoyed buying and selling on Ebay. He was a huge collector including collections of Coca Cola memorabilia, shot glasses, D.I.R.T. Cars, hats, and claw machine animals. Even with all his interests, Tommy's first priority was always his family and friends with racing next.



He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Oral Ames; maternal grandfather, Richton I. Gardiner; and maternal step grandfather, Dean Kelly.



He is survived by his mother, Sharon Ames of Arkport; his father, Thomas C. (Sue) Ames I of Hornell, siblings; Kristie Ames of Walworth, Hannah, Taylor, and Zackery Ames of Hornell; maternal grandmother, Freda Kelly of Canisteo; paternal grandfather, Ira (Vera) Ames of Hornell; aunts and uncles, Dennis (Nancy) Gardiner, Jeff (Becky) Gardiner, John (Cindy) Ames, and Ronald Bridge; as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Calling hours will be held at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street,



Hornell on Saturday from 1-3 PM and 6-8 PM where funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 PM with Pastor Dan Jackson of the Burns Community Church and Pastor Don Maynard of the Canisteo Wesleyan Church officiating. Private burial services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
