Sybil Haley, age 86, passed away Friday (December 10, 2021) at ST. James Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born on April 10, 1935 in Jasper, NY the Daughter of Orval and Elizabeth (Whittemore) Rowley and was later adopted by Clinton and Estella (Johnson) Clark. She had resided in the Hornell/Canisteo area her entire life.

Sybil graduated from Canisteo High School in 1953. She graduated from the Hornell Business School in 1956. Sybil was employed for many years as a dispatcher for the Erie Railroad and Conrail in Hornell and held many positions while working for The Hornell Evening Tribune. She was a member of the Hornell Bible Church where she played the piano and organ for many years. She was also a past member of the Hornell Loyal Order of Moose Lodge and the Hornell American Legion Post 440. Sybil will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, a wonderful story teller and for her love of crocheting.

She was predeceased by both sets of parents, two husbands; Walter Packer in 1965; Robert Haley in 2004, her daughter; Hope Packer in 2012, her son; Gary Packer in 2020, her special brother; Dee Clark as well as various other siblings by her birth and her adopted family.

Sybil is survived by her son; Robert (Pimjai) Haley of Germany, daughter in law; Elizabeth Packer of Howard, grandchildren; Kelsey (Tim) Clair of Hartsville, Hilary Packer of Virginia, Gabe Packer of Florida, Patrick Haley, Araya Haley and Amboo Haley all of Germany, Matthew Clark of Hornell, Daniel (Eva) Clark of Hornell, great-grandchildren; Grace, Olivia and George, her sister-in-law Dorothy Clark of Hornell and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street, Hornell from 11AM- 1PM on Saturday (Dec. 18, 2021) where a memorial service will be held at the conclusion of visitation with the Reverend Norma Roberts officiating.
