Stanley K. Smith, 88, of
7040 Smith Road, passed away Sunday (October 19, 2008) at his home.
Born in Town Of Howard, August 21, 1920, the son of Ernest C. and Mary Oatley Smith, he was born and lived his entire lifeon the farm where he passed away on Sunday.He was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of1937. Stanleyhad been a self employed dairy farmer in the Town of Howard all his life, still being active in the operation of theSmith Stock Farms.
He was a member of the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church on the
Big Creek Road, andhad been a trustee at the church when it was affiliated with the UnitedMethodist Churches. He was a 7thdegree member of the Grange, member and past master of PamonaGrange, a member of the Big Creek Grange, as well as a member and pastpresident of the Steuben County Farm Bureau. He was a former GLF board member,a charter member of the Howard Fire Department, a former assessor for the Townof Howard, and had served on the Southern Tier Central Regional Planning andDevelopment Board,
He was predeceased by his parents, his son, Allyn O. Smith in 1973, his sister, Marion Kilbury, and his brother, Gordon Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Davis Smith,3 daughters, Carol Burns (William Phelps) of Arkport, Marcia (Albert) Burns of Bath, andJoanne (Roger) Williamson of Greenwood, 2 sons, Lowell (Bonnie) Smith and Dale(Lucy) Smith both of the Town of Howard, 2 brothers-in-law, Charles (Laura)Davis and Herman (Earla) Davis both of Hornell, a special friend, Don Saamof Hornell, 23 Grandchildren, and 40 Great Grandchildren.
