Stanley L. Gloss

Canisteo

Stanley L. Gloss, 61, of Canisteo died late Saturday (December 12, 2009) surrounded by his loved ones, following a short battle with lung cancer.

Stanley was born June 17, 1948 in Worcester, Mass, but was raised primarily in Rochester where much of his family still remain. He served with honor in the US Navy during the Viet Nam Conflict, both aboard the USS Shadwell and as a field corpsman attached to Force Recon. He was a Past Master of Morning Star Lodge #65 F&AM and an honorary Brownie. He was a Jack of all trades and Master of one…his family. To Stan, nothing was more important than his family, except, perhaps, a hot Gitsis cheeseburger! Stan always felt that his most important roll in life lay not in a job outside the home, but in it; making sure his family was safe and well cared for was his life's work. And of all his family, most important to him was his "Little Man" Eric, who gave him no end of joy, and of whom he will be forever proud. Stan was fond of saying that he'd set out to be the one to teach him. Stan was larger than life, the center of his family's universe and will be much missed but never, ever forgotten.

Stanley is survived by his one true love, his wife of 27 years, Brenda (Morse) Gloss, oldest daughter, Kathleen (Gary) Olson , son Casey Chriscaden, daughter, Seana Gloss and his best "Little Man", Eric Chriscaden, granddaughter, Ariel Jane Olson; Sister, Patricia (John) Knopick; Brothers, Richard, John (Jeannie), Michael (Barbara), Stephen (Emily) and David Gloss; many beloved nieces and nephews and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Ethel Gloss and sister Virginia Gloss.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo on Thursday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM with a Masonic Memorial Service to he held at 7:45 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 AM with interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
