Shirley F. Saxton, 86, of 4652 County Route 70-A, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday (July 5, 2012) at the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, PA.
Born in Howard, September 20, 1925, the son of Lee and Edythe Jones Saxton, he had resided in Angelica during his early life and moved to the Avoca area about 1947. Shirley had served his country as a member of the US Army during WW-2. He later became employed as a millright at Corning Glass retiring after several years of service. He also owned and operated Shirley's Tavern in Avoca for 20 years. Shirley enjoyed mowing his lawn and all family get togethers. He was a member of the Canisteo American Legion Post, and the Avoca Lodge #0673, F&AM.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Rex Saxton, his son-in-law, Anthony Kanaval, his grandson McKendrick Decker and great grand daughter, SGT. Devin A. Snyder.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Fullwood Saxton who he married on Feb. 14. 1944, daughters, Shirley Kanaval (Clair) Fairbrother of Cohocton, Scharon (Clifford) Harrington of Tennessee, Etta McConnell (Richard)Yartym of Hammondsport, Deborah Gielen of Avoca, and Darlie Doddato (Peter II) of Florida, 2 sons, Andrew Saxton of Avoca and Michael (Cynthia) Saxton of Avoca, a half sister, Charlotte Richardson of Horseheads, 18 Grandchildren, 38 Great Grandchildren and 3 great great grand daughters.

The family will be present to receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Monday at the Wallace Wesleyan Church where funeral services will be held following calling hours at 1 PM. Rev. William Spencer and Rev. Daniel Pickering will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Howard Cemetery.
