Sandra O'Heron, 79, formerly of 63 John Street, passed away Monday (April 17, 2017) at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born in Hornell, April 15, 1938, the daughter of L. Earl and Hilda (Kromer) McManus, she had resided in Hornell all her life. She was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of 1956, and had attended the Bryant and Stratton Business Institute in Olean. Sandra was a well-known piano and organ teacher originally at the former Fletcher-McManus Music Stores in Hornell, and as a private lesson teacher from her home. She was a member of the former East Avenue Methodist Church and later, the United Methodist Church of Hornell. She held many positions on boards and committees in the churches and will be remembered most notably for the decades she devoted to the church as a gifted organist and choir director. Sandy gave the gift of music to many children and adults through the years and is remembered for her kindness and patience.
She was an active volunteer serving with Hornell's Faith In Action and the Corning LPGA. Sandra enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, shopping, baking, traveling , hosting family gatherings and delighted in being a home maker.
She was predeceased by her parents, her former husband, Donald Campbell. She married the late Edward O'Heron on April 21, 1978. They shared 36 happy years together until his death in 2014; her daughter, Lori O'Heron Rizzo, her brother, David McManus and son-in-law Darcy L. Henry.
She is survived by her daughters; Joy Valentine of Hornell and her children; Jeremy, Donny, and Marla Valentine, and great grand-daughters, Claire Manley and Callie Butler; Kelly (Jack) O'Heron- Grillo of South Dansville, and their children Emily & Darcy Henry, and Matt Grillo; Kim O'Heron and her daughter, Skye O'Heron of Virginia, son-in-law Tony Rizzo and sons Eric and Patric of Silver Spring Maryland, her brothers; Donald McManus and Daniel (Kathy) McManus of Hornell, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street, Hornell, NY on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Saturday Morning from 10-11AM with a memorial service being held at 11AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery in Hornell.
