Samantha S. Peters Smith, 36, of Greenwood St., went to be with Jesus on Sunday (March 10, 2019) at St. James Hospital in Hornell.



Born in Hornell, October 8, 1982, the daughter of Daniel and Susan (Munro) Peters, she had resided in Canisteo her whole life. She was a graduate of Canisteo Central School, Class of 2001, she then attended Alfred State College, St. John Fisher and obtained her law degree from Regent Law School in Virginia Beach. Sam loved to spend time with her son James and was very involved with all his of sports. Sam enjoyed wrestling, baseball and basketball. For the past several years Sam has been a public defender for Steuben County where she worked in Family Court, she had a great passion for working with and defending children.



She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents; Ralph and Tina Peters and maternal grandparents; Piers and Marjorie Munro.



She is survived by her son; James Kevin Smith III of Canisteo, parents; Daniel and Susan Peters of Canisteo, fiance´; Glenn Forsythe of Canisteo, 1 brother Bryan (Melissa) Peters of Canisteo, nieces and nephews; Zachary (McKenzie), Jordan and Peyton Peters and Caleb Jaconski as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will be present on Thursday (March 14, 2019), from 4-8PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo. Funeral services will be held on Friday (March 15, 2019) at 11AM at the Canisteo-Greenwood Elementary School Gymnasium, Greenwood St. Canisteo, Rev. Shannon Brumfield officiating. There will be a luncheon to follow at the Canisteo Wesleyan Ministry Center on Greenwood St. in Canisteo. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Canisteo.



In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Canisteo Ambulance Corps.
