Elaine Scholla
Angelica
Elaine Scholla, 81, of Angelica passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday February 27, 2016.
Elaine was born November 10, 1934 in Tyrone, PA, the daughter of the late Raymond and Hazel Mills.
She was a resident of Angelica for 53 years. On July 18, 1953 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in
Angelica, she married her strong and faithful husband, Donald L. Scholla who survives.
Elaine attended schools in the Buffalo area. She was a lifetime member and proud advocate of St. Paul's
Episcopal Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars of Angelica.
"Aunt Laine", as so many called her, welcomed all into her home with joy and pride. Many of her
children's friends refer to her as a beloved "mother of Angelica"… a term of affection that she would
relish. While being mother to seven was her lifelong devotion, she worked throughout her life in
restaurant establishments in Angelica and throughout the area.
Always quick to tease and join in a laugh, one could find her cooking in her kitchen and belting out O
Sole Mio, much to the amusement of her grandchildren. Her talents in the kitchen were well documented,
from her macaroni salad to her famous pies! A vocal sports fan of her children and grandchildren, she
embraced the excitement of the games and the camaraderie of the Angelica community.
A life-long learner, she was curious to experience "the width" of life through travel, technology,
shopping, but was most happy when her family was all together…cherishing each story told…each laugh
shared. Elaine wore her passion for life on her sleeve, freely giving her opinions to all. Her commitment
to the love and traditions of family is reflected in the closeness her children and grandchildren feel for
each other…her greatest legacy.
Surviving besides her husband are seven children, Shawn Scholla, Pam (Bob) Sandlas , and Jim (Mary)
Scholla of Angelica, Don (Janine) Scholla of Olean, Chris (Robin) Scholla of Wolcott, Sheri (Rich)
Reynolds of Houghton, and Doug (Tanya) Scholla of Scio; 18 grandchildren, Robert (Adriel) Sandlas of
East Rochester, Ross Sandlas of Angelica, Ryan Sandlas of Richmond, VA, Molly and Patrick Scholla of
Olean, Morgan Scholla of Rochester, Tara Scholla of Angelica, and Zachary Scholla of Houston, Breanne
(Doug) Cerkiewicz of Windemere, FL, Pamela (Matt) Handley of Kennesaw, GA, Amanda Martin of
Wolcott, Alexa Martin of Plattsburg, Christopher Martin of Kingston, Kaylan(John)Buteyn of Paris, TN,
Maggie Reynolds of Houghton, Meghan Scholla of Bolivar, Carter and Cassidy Scholla of Scio; and five
great-grandchildren, Finley Buteyn, Sophia Chamberlain, Trey Sandlas, Raymond Cerkiewicz, and Zoey
