S. Jean Brown, 78, of State Route 90, Homer, NY, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 22, 2025, following a period of declining health.Jean was born November 25, 1946 in Hornell, NY, a daughter of the late Eugene and Ruby Wyse Carpenter.She was a proud member of the class of 1964 at Alfred Almond Central School. She went on to pursue degrees from SUNY Geneseo. It was there she met the love of her life, Robert E. Brown, originally from New York City. Jean and Bob settled in Canisteo and began their careers as elementary teachers. They enjoyed their lives and careers in Canisteo and Almond communities where they raised their three children.Jean retired in 2002 and made her first solo trip to Australia for the birth of her first grandchild. It was the beginning of this new chapter in her life as ‘Grandma Jean’ that brought her great joy.Jean and Bob relocated to the Cortland area in 2012 to be closer to their grandchildren. Jean spent countless hours reading books, going on adventures, playing games, and preparing meals for family gatherings on weekends.Bob and Jean spent 20 winters in Lakeland, FL; ballroom dancing, gatherings with family and friends and supporting Bob in his band gigs.Jean’s guiding force in life was her faith and trust in Jesus. She shared His love and kindness freely with others.Surviving is her husband, Robert E. Brown; her three children, Andrew ‘Otis’ (Kelley) Brown, Jeremy Brown of Homer, NY, and Wendy (Brett) Caulfield of Warranwood, Australia; her grandchildren, Cody, Daisy, Emma and Sadie Caulfield and Amelia and Jack Brown as well as a special sister/cousin, Marilyn Zirkelbach Habern (James); also brothers-in-law; Denis Brown (Mary), Peter Brown (Robyn); sister-in-law Janet Carpenter, and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Linda Ann and Gary Carpenter; her mother-in- law, Eugenia Brown, whom Jean cared for the last 11 years of her life. Also father-in-law Eugene Brown, sister-in-law, Janet Brown.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at St. Margaret’s Church, 14 Copeland Avenue, Homer, NY 13077.Memorial services will also be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025 at the Almond Community Church, 11 S. Main Street, Almond, NY 14804.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Brown’s name are asked to consider St. Margaret’s Church or the Almond Community Church.
