S. "Ruthie" Brokaw Holberton, 79, of 72 Front Street, passed away Friday (October 9, 2009) at St. James Hospital.
Born in Hornell, May 14, 1930, the daughter of William and Carrie Sherwood Duryea, , she had resided in Hornell her entire life. She had been employed at the Hornell-Canisteo Penn-E-Saver, and later as a tax consultant for H & R Block in Hornell. She was very proud of her membership in Alcoholic Anonymous for over 45 years.
She was predeceased by her first husband Howard Brokaw and her second husband, Orrin Holberton in 1998, her sister Rena Wallace and brothers, Donald and Elton Duryea.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Lynne) Brokaw of Ontario, Marilyn Brokaw of Hornell with whom she made her home, Linda (Don) Brokaw of Friendship, many grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces & nephews and her special pets, "Daisy" and Peaches.
Honoring Ruthie's wishes, there will be no visitation hours. A private funeral service will be held for the family at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell with Rev. Patrick Harrison Officiating.
