Ruth Hulda DesJardin (née Voetsch) passed away peacefully at home in Angelica, NY, on July 30, 2026. Born to Avis and Edward Voetsch on October 16, 1935, in Niagara Falls, NY, Ruth lost her mother, Ava, in infancy and was lovingly raised by her father, Edward, and his second wife, Barbara Voetsch.

Ruth was the beloved wife of 68 years to James Michael DesJardin, and together they built a life rich with love and family. She was the devoted mother of Johanna Pike (Everett), Michael DesJardin (Elizabeth), William DesJardin (Karen), Jean DesJardin (Daniel DeMore), Paul DesJardin (Julie Murphy), and Joel DesJardin (Jennifer). She was also the cherished grandmother of 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She is survived by her brother, Edward Voetsch (Beverly) and was preceded in death by her sister, Marlene Pytlik (Peter), with whom she shared close and lifelong bonds.

Ruth graduated from Buffalo State Teacher College and went on to become an elementary school teacher in the North Tonawanda school district, later teaching in the BOCES adult continuing education program in Rochester. Teaching was more than a career for her; it was a calling she carried with warmth and patience throughout her life.

While raising her children in Niagara Falls and then Churchville, NY, Ruth gave generously of her time as an active volunteer for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. In later years, she continued that spirit of service through Habitat for Humanity and as a volunteer at Victory Junction Camp for youth in North Carolina, always finding joy in helping others.

Ruth found peace and pleasure in quilting and treasured every moment spent with her family. She grew up along the Niagara River and never lost her deep love for it. It remained close to her heart for her entire life.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Garwoods United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 8th, at noon for visitation, with a service to follow at 2:00 pm. All are welcome to join the family for a luncheon at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Garwoods United Methodist Church or to Suzanne's Comfort Care Home Inc.
