Ruth M. Dennis, 89, a resident of the Hornell Gardens, passed away Saturday (June 11, 2016) at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born in Hornell, April 23, 1927, the daughter of Charles and Cassie (Taft) Conners, she was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Hornell High School. Ruth had worked for the former Marion Rohr in Hornell. She had attended the Free Methodist Church in Hornell, and she enjoyed sewing, cleaning, homemaking, but Ruth's best quality was her way of always thinking of others. Her family was her life, and she enjoyed every bit of spending time with them.
She was predeceased by her husband Melvin Dennis on February 28, 1990, whom she married on August 21, 1945. She was also predeceased by her daughter Barbara Knapp in 2015, her sister Doris Doll, and her brother James Conners.
She is survived by her daughter Jean (Robert) Starace of Canisteo, her son Robert Dennis of Hornell, her brother Robert Conners of Herkimer, 4 grandchildren Lisa (Robert) Hann of Avon, Charlie (Colleen) Harrison of Hornell, Barbara (EJ) Oyer in Hornell, and Mary Clark of Hornell, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will be present 3-5pm Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell, where funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM, with her grandson Charlie Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Fremont Cemetery.
