Russell Elwin Allen

Russell E. Allen, 89, of Almond, N.Y. passed away May 30. 2025 with his wife and daughter by his side.
He was born on July 7, 1935 at his family’s farm in Almond N.Y. during a flooding event. His parents were George H. Allen and Marcella Burdick Allen.
Russ was a lifelong resident of Almond, graduated from Alfred-Almond Central School class of 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after graduation and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska.
Upon his completion of his Army duty Russ returned home where he met and later married Virginia Burns, Scio, NY on August 30, 1957, and they have been married for 67 years.
Russ was employed at SKF in Hornell for many years as a machinist. He worked at Alfred-Almond Central School for several years, and finally worked at Alstom until retirement age.
Russ was a 50+ year member of the Almond Volunteer Ambulance and Fire company where he was an EMS.
He is survived by his wife Virginia Burns Allen of Elderwood Nursing Home, Hornell, NY, his sister Bonnie Allen of Nacagdoches, TX, his daughter Janis Allen Welkie, Andrew of Middletown, PA, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren , many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and three siblings, he was predeceased by his daughter Lisa Allen Brown.
His family will have a private graveside service.
