Obituary

Angelica, NY- Rosemary Stella (Damon) Wesche, 95, passed peacefully, Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Noyes Memorial Hospital.
Born September 19, 1930, in the Town of Allen, she was the daughter of Daniel and Tena (Harwood) Damon. Rosemary was proud of the fact that she was born in the family homestead and in 2016, moved back in the home with her daughter, and was able to reside there until her death.

On May 7, 1946, Basswood Hill, Town of Allen, she married Clarence E. Wesche. They were 84 days short of celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary when he passed in the home they shared from the time they were married.
Rosemary went to #8 school on Basswood Hill, walking through woods and crossing a creek each weekday. After aging out of attending the one room schoolhouse, she attended the Wilsonian School in Angelica.

She was the mother of four daughters, Irene (Raymond) Hooker of Angelica, Arlene (Donald) Timothy, of Coudersport PA, Shirley (Dean) Timothy, of Dalton- Brenda Norton of Allen (Bob Bidlack)

Rosemary was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great grandchildren plus 2 additions expected soon.

Rosemary was known for 32 years, as the local "paper hanger and painter" throughout Allegany County, making many friends along the way. Prior to starting her own business, Rosemary worked in the Perry Knitting Mill in Fillmore. When she wasn't working outside the home she helped on the farm. She cherished her gardens and houseplants. Rosemary enjoyed cross-stitching, crocheting, puzzles, and a variety of crafting.

Sentiments from her girls:

Arlene: I am so proud to say my mother taught me to make patterns for my dolls when I was very young. From there I made some of my own clothes. Later I used this and got into upholstery. Thanks to Mom.

Shirley: My mother will always be with me. She'll be there when I see a new bloom in my garden or hear a bird singing in a tree. She'll be there when I hug my children or welcome a new family member. Her crocheted items remind me of her many talents that she shared with loved ones. This energetic, fun loving, remarkable lady taught me to appreciate nature and see beauty in the simplest things. Leading by example; finding joy in being resourceful and the rewards of hard work and not giving up. My heart will hurt, but mothers don't leave this earth, they live on within us.

Brenda: I remember Mom playing cards, badminton and "Andy Andy Over" with me when I was growing up. She was entertaining as she told her life lived experiences growing up. She loved her Grandma Harwood and used to walk across the field to her home frequently. When she was still in school, she would roller skate from the hardtop road to Angelica behind her parents and the horse wagon. She recalled the time Dad didn't have money for two passes into the fair, so she climbed in the trunk of the car. Mom loved to "weed whack", and at the age of 93, wouldn't stop trimming until her two batteries needed charging. Mom was a spitfire and kept her sense of humor to the end. Love and miss you, Mom. The house isn't the same without your presence.

Rosemary passed away after her parents, husband, son-in-law Calvin (Sam) Norton, and her grandson Justin Norton.

There will be a family graveside gathering Friday, May 8th, at the time of her burial.
