Roger Grant Ohstrom 69 of VeniceFL, died recently at his home. He was born on June 1, 1937 in Tonawanda, NYto Olof G and Edna Malchow Ohstrom. A graduate of Southside High Schoolin Elmira, hegraduated from Alfred University in 1962,majoring in political science. After graduation, he worked briefly at the YMCAin South Buffalo, returning to Hornell in 1963to become the Physical Director at the Hornell YMCA. Also that year he marriedKathleen Love in Erie, PA. In 1966 he become Assistant Dean ofStudents at Alfred University, Director ofStudent Activities and manager of Rogers Campus Center.He also served as Alfred's Freshman Coach and Assistant Men's Basketball Coach.In 1979 Roger accepted the position of Director of Student Activities at Corning Community College. He retired in 2001 asSteuben County Stop DWI Coordinator, a position he held since 1987.



Roger was a long-time of IAABO, and refereed many highschool basketball games throughout the years, as well as girls volleyballgames. He was a charter member of the Board of Directors of the Hornell BabeRuth League, a Jaycee member, and coached girls track team. He was also theinitiator of the YMCA Memorial Day 5K race.



He will be remembered for his love of sports. While at Alfred University,he was one of the first freshmen to play on the varsity basketball team. He wasalso an avid photographer, and enjoyed traveling and spending time on hissailboat the "Carribean Dream".



Roger is survived by his wife, Debra Jerome Ohstrom of Florida,whom he married in 1996, his daughters Julie (Kurt) Kline of Caledonia, andKelly (Brian) Jackson of Hornell. He is also survived by four grandsons: Kyleand Nicholas Kline and Randy and Taylor Jackson, and many good friends. He waspredeceased by his parents and a brother Gordon Ohstrom.



The family will receive friends Tuesday (December 19, 2006) at the Roberston Funeral Home 354 Canisteo St Hornell (New Location) from 4-7pm.
