Rodney L. Stephens, 57, of 67 West Genesee Street, passed away unexpectedly Sunday (October 12, 2014) at his home.



Born in Hornell, January 20, 1957, the son of Raymond Stephens and Vera Gardner Griswold, he was a graduate of Hornell High School, and a proud veteran of the US Army and National Guard, serving in the Persian Gulf, and many other places around the world. Rodney had also worked for environmental services at the Bath VAMC. He had achieved Kentucky Colonel while living in Kentucky from 1993-2001, before moving back to Hornell. Rodney was a member of the Hornell VFW Post #440, the Hornell AM Vets and the Hornell VFW #2250. He enjoyed hunting, and fishing, but absolutely loved most of all being a Grandpa, to his 3 grandchildren.



He was predeceased by his parents.



He is survived by 5 sons Raymond Stephens of Arkport, Rodney II, John, Andrew, and Nicholas Stephens all of Hornell, his former wife and friend Robyn Guy Stephens of Hornell, 3 sisters Linda (David) Dibble of Arkport, Marlene (Ralph) Herbert of Hornell, Diane (John Groves) Stephens of Hornell, his brother Roland (Bonnie) Stephens of Dansville, his 3 grandchildren Gabrielle Stephens, Jacob Phillips, and Olivia Phillips, several nieces, nephews and cousins.



The family will be present 10am-12pm Friday, October 17, 2014, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell, where a Euglogy service will follow calling hours at 12:00, with his brother Roland "Ron" conducting the service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following with full Military honors. A Luncheon will follow the graveside at the Hornell VFW at 2:00pm.
