Robert "Butch" Terry, 85 a resident of Burt Hill Road in Canisteo, passed away Sunday (July 5, 2026) at his home.
Born in Hornell, April 2, 1941, he was the son of Robert and Bertha Jones Terry. Butch was a graduate of Canisteo Central School and had been employed by the former Erie Railroad from 1961-1966 as an apprentice electrician. He retired in 1996 after working 31 years as an engineer in the bridge department at the New York State Department of Transportation in Hornell. He also worked part-time for the Town of Howard and Canisteo Highway Department.
Butch will be remembered as an avid NASCAR fan and one who enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, camping and working with his tractors, dozers and backhoe. He especially enjoyed watching family members in their sports activities and other activities in their lives. He enjoyed going for car rides to different places and watching various wildlife, especially when he was unable to go outside to hunt.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters, Helen and Elizabeth Terry, his brothers, Tom, Bill and Richard Terry, and his daughter Kristine.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Deanna Stewart Terry of Canisteo, his daughter Amy Terry of Hornell, and brother, James (Rosemary) Terry of Trumansburg, his daughter Phyllis, and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday (July 11, 2026) at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home. 6 Spruce Street in Canisteo from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at which time a funeral service will be held with Rev. Todd Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo.
