Robert J Lee, 57, of 36 Pine Street, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (April 13, 2010) on Lilly Avenue in Hornell.
Born in Hornell, September 5, 1952, the son of Joseph and Mary O'Connor Lee, he was a lifelong area resident, graduating from St Ann's School, Hornell High School, and Alfred State College. Bob previously worked for Connor's Pharmacy, and St James Mercy Hospital early in his career. In 1978 he was appointed to the Hornell Fire Department, serving the community he loved, retiring in December 2003, and recently was an employee of Steuben County Sheriff's Department from 2004-2010. He was a member of Our Lady of Valley Parish and a communicant of St Ann's Church, and was a member of the AOH of Hornell. Bob previously had been code enforcement officer for Hornellsville, Canisteo, and Hartsville, voting machine custodian, and was a member of the Hornell Assoc., Hornell American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus, and was serving on the Cemetery board for Our Lady of the Valley Parish.
He also enjoyed tending his tree farm, was a hard worker, a master handyman who always was willing to help any one in need telling them "No Problem."
He was predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Swift of 27 years, a loving father to Meghan (Jesse) Olsen of South Carolina, Bryan Swift of Hornell, Jennifer Speed, and Robert Pate of Hornell, grandchildren Peyton Olsen, Quillan Speed, Kieran Pate, Layne Berry, brothers Thomas (Christine) Lee of California, John (Jackie) Lee of Cheyenne WY, Daniel (Tina) Lee of Hornell and sister Margaret (James) Kelsey of Mesa, AZ, several nieces and nephews.
The family will be present 3-9pm Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Bob's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00AM, at St Ann's Church. Burial will be in St Mary's Cemetery, Fremont.
