Robert A Doan, 84, of 7556 Seneca Road North, passed away Wednesday (September 30, 2009) at Strong Memorial Hospital.



Born in Arkport, June 18, 1925, the son of Arthur and Mildred Ormsby Doan, he had resided in Hornell, and Arkport all his life, and had served his country in the Navy during World War II. Bob was retired from NYSEG after 38 years in 1983, and owned and operated a lime and dump trucking business. He was a life member of the Arkport American Legion, Hornell Moose Club, and the Hornell Elks, and enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, camping and wintering in Florida.



He was predeceased by his first wife Audrey Norton Doan in 1997.



He is survived by his wife Sara Hess Doan whom he married in 2006, his daughter Barbara (John) Nilson of Arkport, 3 sons Ronald (Sally) Doan of Georgia, Trevor (Sarah Horan) Garfield of Arkport, Ashley Montague of Oregon, sisters Marjory (Mick) Wyant of Florida, and Louise Ryan of Hornell, 6 grandchildren Brandy Nilson, Jason Nilson, Jeff (Linda) Doan, Nicole (Jason) Parnell, Logan Garfield, and Lev Montague, 4 great grandchildren Sarah Jean, Samantha, Grace, and Haley, and nieces and nephews.



The family will be present to receive friends Friday from 2-4& 7-9pm, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell, where Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00pm with the Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery.
