Richard P. "Rich" O'Brien, 59, of 46 Oak St., passed away Tuesday (April 13, 2010) at Robert Packer Hospital, in Sayre, PA.
Born in Hornell, March 4, 1951, the son of Richard and Alice (Brewster) O'Brien Sr., he had resided in Hornell all his life. Rich worked as a welder for the Foster Wheeler Corp in Dansville and also for the former MK of Hornell. He was an avid hunter and NASCAR fan and loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events; his four grandchildren were his life. He and his wife were an inseparable pair and have enjoyed the past 41 years together. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He touched the lives of all he met.
He was predeceased by his parents as well as his son Paul Richard O'Brien.
He is survived by his wife/best friend Linda (Ilges) O'Brien whom he married on August 8, 1969, two daughters, Tammi (Cora Fowler) Eveland of Hornell and Kari Capluzzi of Hornell, four grandchildren, Brendan, Connor, Colin and Cameron, two sisters, Paula (Tony) Giglio of CO and Kathy (Robert) Greeley of Hornell, two brothers John O'Brien of Hornell and Craig O'Brien of AL, two brothers-in-law, Clinton Ilges of Greenwood and Terry Ilges of Hornell, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 6PM-8PM Friday at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 8Pm at the funeral home with Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating.
