Richard A. Masterson
Hornell
Richard Allen, AKA Uncle Itch and “Bat” Masterson passed away peacefully at his home on March 30th, 2024. Rich was the son of Donald and Gloria (Pulkowsky) Masterson. He was born on 12/27/1960 in Hornell and would spend his entire life here.
In Rich’s younger years he played in several softball leagues. He also enjoyed bowling in leagues. Over the course of 28 years he organized the Gloria Masterson Pool Tournament with the help of his wife; Loralee, Shirley Jacket, and his sister Bernice Ann. Of all the years it was held the money was donated to various cancer associations, with one of the most contributions going to St. Jude’s.
Rich worked at Pizza King and Giovanni’s with Bill, Lorraine, and Cindy for over 40 years. He loved the Giovanni family and the “Gios” employees unconditionally, as he always thought of them as family.
Rich also owned and operated Rich’s mowing services. When he could no longer operate due to his health issues he turned the business and his clients over to his sister Bernice Ann. Rich was also a lifetime member of the Hornell VFW Post 2250 where he tended bar and was part of the honor guard. As a sports enthusiast Rich was a die hard Yankee and Raiders fan.
He is predeceased by his parents and his brothers Daniel and Robert who passed away on March 8th, 2024. He is survived by his wife Loralee (Faurior) whom he married on May 7th, 1995. His sisters Bernice Ann (Jeff) Muhollen, Donna (Rex) Depew, and his brothers David Masterson and Rex Depew; all of Hornell.
He is also survived by his daughter Alyssa Masterson, sons Ricky, Ryan, Brandon, Devon, Jonathan, and Dana. His grandchildren Clarrissa, Ayron, Ellie, Haydon, Brentley, Gavin, Emily, Madyson, Alexis, Kia, and Destiny. His niece Rachel (Chad) Depew-Schaumberg and many other nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at the Fremont Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at the Hornell VFW at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
