Richard H. Crowley, 79, formerly of Hornell, passed away Saturday (January 30, 2016) in Texas
Born in North Hornell, February 2, 1936, the son of Harry and Luella Knapp Crowley, he had resided several years in the Rochester-Caledonia area. He was a retiree of Rochester Telephone Company, now known as Frontier, and in his earlier years, he was employed at the former Erie Lackawanna Railroad. Dick had served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Prior to his retirement, Dick owned Side Porch Music in Caledonia as well as another music store in Bath. He was an avid music lover who sang old time country and enjoyed Bluegrass music.
After retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively by RV. They eventually relocated in San Benito Texas due to his health problems. Dick will be remembered best for his love of family, his mild temperament, his love of music, and his unpredictable sense of humor.
He was predeceased by his parents and first wife, the former Shirley Lorraine Rhude of Canisteo, his brother Donald Crowley and his sister Marilyn Day.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Hillabush-Benz-Crowley, his four children, Janet (Tony) D'Ambra of Caledonia, Nick Crowley of Rochester, David Crowley of Cicero and Bonnie (Patric) Welch of Greenwood, Indiana, four step-children, Scott Benz of Honeoye Falls, Michael (Deb Wiseman) Benz of Mechanicsburg, Illinois, Wayne (Sandra) Benz of Elba, and David(Rayne) Benz of Clifton Springs, 8 Grandchildren, Tony, Denise, Roxann, Michaela, Sara, Dana, Devin and Aidan, 5 step-grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica, Cory, Zander and Haven, 6 great grandchildren, Teddy, Lucy, Robert, Jackson, Kennedy and Charlotte as well as his brother, Gary Crowley of Vermont.
