Richard Otis Claypool, affectionately known as "Pee-wee," of Angelica, New York, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 11, 2026. He was born on November 24, 1947, in Cuba, New York, the son of Ruby Rose Claypool, who preceded him in death.
Pee-wee shared 39 years of his life with his significant other, Marilyn Barnes. Together, they shared many years of love, companionship, and memories that will forever be cherished. Marilyn was an important part of his life, and the years they spent together were a special part of his story.
Pee-wee was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be remembered for his kind heart, his love for his family, and his unforgettable personality. Although Richard Otis Claypool was his legal name, he preferred to be called Pee-wee. Anyone who knew him knew he was quite a character, with a wonderful sense of humor and a way of making people laugh.
Pee-wee enjoyed the simple things in life, especially dirt track racing, hunting, fishing, and mowing yards. He was also a loyal fan of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, enjoying cheering on his favorite teams. Whether he was watching a game, talking racing, spending time outdoors, or visiting with family and friends, Pee-wee knew how to enjoy life and make the most of the moments that mattered.
His humor was a special part of who he was. Pee-wee loved joking around and bringing smiles to the faces of family and friends. He had a way of making life more entertaining just by being himself. One of his favorite sayings to his daughter Cherl was, "Never take a wooden nickel." Those words will always be remembered with a smile, along with the countless stories, jokes, and memories that made him so special. Pee-wee was truly one of a kind, and there was never anyone quite like him.
Pee-wee is survived by his children, Richard (Anna) Claypool and Cherl (Lee) Prentice. He was preceded in death by his son, Eric(Christina) Wheeler. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who will carry his love and memory with them for generations to come.
He is also survived by his siblings: Bertha (Louis) George, Leonard (Maxine) Claypool, Ruth (Fred) Grusendorf, James (Teresa) Claypool, and Terry Thomas.
Above all, Pee-wee loved his family. Being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was an important part of his life. The time he spent with his loved ones, the laughter he shared, and the memories he created will be treasured for years to come.
Pee-wee leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, stories, and unforgettable memories. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of Marilyn, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was a loving family man, a kind soul, a loyal Buffalo sports fan, and a character who could always bring a smile to your face. His humor, his kindness, and his famous words, "Never take a wooden nickel," will never be forgotten.
There will never be another Pee-wee, and he will forever be loved and remembered.
The family will be present on Thursday (October 15, 2026) from 11am-1pm at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Angelica. A Graveside will be held following calling hours at 1:30pm at Until the Day Dawn Cemetery in Angelica.
