Richard LeRoy Bliss, 85, of 3651 Greenville Road, passed away Wednesday (May 30, 2012) at his home.
Born in Bath, April 15, 1927, the son of Stephen and Emma Evans Bliss, he had resided in Bath for several years and in the Town of Avoca the past 57 years. Dick was a graduate of Haverling High School and the New York State Agricultural and Technical College at Canton. He had been employed as a design engineer at the former Westinghouse Corporation in Bath. Dick was proud to have served his country during WWII as well as the Korean Conflict, as a member of the United States Navy. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Avoca and the Bath Camp of Gideons. He had served in the former Civil Air Patrol, was scout master of the Avoca Troop 32, Boy Scouts of America, a Cub Scout leader, and a member of the Steuben County Bee Association.
He was predeceased by his sister, Myra Sutton and his brother, Charles Bliss.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Hammond Bliss who he married on Nov. 27, 1948, his 3 daughters, Nancy (Thomas) Gillette of Bloomfield, Kathleen Perillo of Lake Placid, FL and Linda (Rev. James) Balson of Macedon, 3 sons, Carl (Janet) Bliss of Elmira, Larry (Joanne) Bliss of Lima and Stephen (Susan) Bliss of Savona, 2 sisters, Thelma (Harold) Dabb of Gowanda and Dorothy (Allen) Coumbe of Il, 1 brother, Robert (Janice) Bliss of Corning, 15 grandchildren, Alisa (James) Laska, Jennifer Bliss Plassche, Julie (Steve) PLavcan, Kevin Bliss, Paul (Emily) Gillette, Sherry (Kevin) Moison, Matthew Gillette, Joshua (Jennifer) Balson, Anne Marie Balson, David Gillette, Laura Gillette, Kelsey Balson, Kathleen Gillette, Nathan Balson and Mary Gillette, 3 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Sunday evening from 6PM until 8PM, at the First Baptist Church of Avoca, and on Monday from 10Am until 11AM at which time funeral services will be conducted by Pastor William McFeaters. Burial will Military Honors will be at Bath National Cemetery at 2 PM. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home of Hornell.
