Richard A. Bergh,74, of

16 Bennett Street,passed away Monday (March20, 2006) at his home.



Born in Blossburg, PA, October 27, 1931, the son of Albin andIna WestBergh, hehad resided his early life in Pennsylvania,graduating from Williamson Junior-Senior High School in Tioga, PA. He attended Penn Stateand Mansfield University, receiving his Masters Degreefrom Alfred University. He had resided in Canisteo since 1959. He taught at Canisteo Central School from1959-1967, and later was employed in the admissions department at Alfred University,and SUNY Geneseo. He also was employed at the Steuben BOCES- Wildwood Campus, bothWhitesville and Troupsburg Central School,and later as a counselor in the MATCH Program administered at St James Hospitalprior to his retirement in 1993.



He had served in the US Army from 1953-1955, was a member ofthe Canisteo United Methodist Church and the CanisteoAmerican Legion Post #846.



He is survived by his wife, Mary Lorow Bergh whom he marriedMarch 8, 1986, one daughter: Elizabeth (Andrew) Detrick of Colorado, 2 Step-sons, Hanns (Karen)Birch of Bath and Stephen Birchof Canisteo, his aunt, Dortha Bergh of Corning, 4 grandchildren, Erika Detrickand Andrew Detrick, Nathan and Trent Birch, several cousins.

The family will be presentto receive friends on Saturday from 1-3PM at the Brown &Powers Funeral Home,

6 Spruce St., Canisteo where a Memorial services will be heldfollowing calling hours at 3:00PM.Deacon Dan Slattery will officiate.Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery,
