Reginald "Reg" A. Evans

Reginald A. Evans, 70, of 229 Vincent Street, passed away Friday (January 8, 2016) at Jones Memorial Hospital.
Born in North Hornell, September 10, 1945, the son of Robert E. and Marjorie (Acomb) Evans, he was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Hornell High School. He joined the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War serving from 1964-68, while serving he was wounded, and granted the Purple Heart. Early in his career, he had worked for the Ell's Gas Station in Arkport, The Moonlighter's in Hornell, and retired from the NYSDOT in Hornell in 2001, after 33 years, working in the Soils and Materials Department. He was a member of the Arkport Legion, the Hornell VFW, a life member of the Hornell AMVETS, and was on the Board of Directors at the Hornell Sportsmen's Club.
"Reg" was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, shooting, gardening, landscaping, feeding the birds and squirrels, cooking, working with Leather goods, and also collected shot glasses, and decanters. No passion was more important to him though, than spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his High School sweetheart, Rosalie "Rose" (Neu) Evans, whom he married on April 15, 1967 at the Hornell Gospel Center, and celebrated 49 years of marriage. He also is survived by 3 sons Reginald A. (Vicki) Evans II of Hornell, Brett A. (Wendy) Evans Sr. of Lincoln, DE, and Aaron C. (Laura) Evans of Eden, NC, grandchildren Andrew Flint, Joshua Bailey, Jacob Bailey, Brittanie Rose Evans, Brett A. Evans Jr., Ian, Elijah, Olivia, Lily and Asher Evans, and many close friends.
The family will be present 4-7pm Thursday, January 14, 2016, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell, where Funeral services will be held on Friday, at 11:00AM, with Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport, with full Military Honors.
