Paul J. Almeter, 89, of
County Rd 2A, passed away peacefully Friday (September 21, 2007) at home.
Born in Sheldon, NY, September 27, 1917, the son of Jacob and Mary Schwab Almeter, he had been a lifelong area resident. On May 15, 1981 he married Rita Duffy Almeter who survives. Paul was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church of Angelica, where he built and constructed the altar, and served as a trustee for 60 plus years, and was also awarded the St. Joseph Medal Award from Bishop Edward Head. He was a 75 plus year member of the Birdsall Grange, and had served on the Angelica School Board for many years. Paul had been a self-employed farmer and carpenter for many years before retiring. He had also been awarded the Farmer of the year award, and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Abby Hurd , 3 sisters Delores Aman, Cecelia Robinson, Catherine Shutt, 3 brothers Maynard, Vincent and Alfred Almeter. His first wife, Anna Catherine Recktenwald , whom he married June 27, 1949, passed away on March 2, 1975.
He is survived by his wife Rita, 2 daughters Elaine (Joe) Herdman of Belmont, Carolyn (Mark) Brown of Florida, a son Paul Almeter of Angelica, 2 step daughters Joanne (Robert) Black of Andover, Linda (Thomas) Harding of Webster and step son James (Tammy ) Criss of Arkport 1 sister Theresa (Edward) Cotter, 3 brothers Norman, Charles and Clair Almeter, 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Mary Dahill, niece Irene (Richard) Oyer, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive family and friends from 10 AM to 12Noon Monday, at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home,
101 West Ave., Angelica. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church in Belfast on Monday, September 24, 2007 at 1:00 PM, Father Dennis Mancuso officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Belfast.
