Patricia Ann (Norris) Kaake, beloved wife, mother, artist, and community advocate, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023, with her devoted family by her side. Her courageous battle against numerous health challenges was a testament to her strength and resilience.
Born in Buffalo, NY, to Andy and Martha Norris, Pat's early years were split between Buffalo and Detroit. From a young age, her passion for the arts and dedication to helping others shone brightly. She initially pursued studies in religion at Valparaiso University but ultimately discovered her love for the arts during her time at the Detroit Institute of the Arts.
It was at the Institute that she crossed paths with the love of her life, Don Kaake. Their bond led to a beautiful family that expanded with the arrival of two boys and two girls. Pat's creative spirit was boundless, always crafting beautiful pieces—be it paintings, surface decorations, or quilts. Her creations were not only cherished within her home but were also shared generously with friends and even sold to admirers.
In 1975, Pat and her family made a pivotal decision to relocate from Detroit to Angelica, NY, where she found solace and love within the embrace of the small town. Through her dedication and love for the Village and community, she worked tirelessly to help others appreciate and love Angelica as much as she did.
Professionally, Pat became a highly sought-after ecclesiastical artist. Her meticulously crafted textile stoles and altarpieces adorned churches across New York, earning acclaim for their beauty and spiritual resonance. Her visionary skills extended beyond the art realm, as she led through her commitment to organizations such as the Angelica Boosters and the Booster News, serving as a writer and graphic designer for over 35 years.
Pat's philanthropic spirit was boundless. She was always creating new opportunities for the community. The artistic drawings for the angel cancelation in December for the past 27 years are one of her many ideas. She also envisioned and passionately advocated for the utilization of lavender as a potential catalyst for a cottage industry of local artisans, starting the Lavender Festival with fellow visionaries showcasing her innovative and forward-thinking mindset.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her loving family, the communities she touched, and the artistic works that continue to inspire. Pat will be fondly remembered for her unwavering dedication, creative brilliance, and boundless compassion that illuminated the lives of all fortunate enough to know her.
Pat is survived by her devoted children, Shaw Kaake and wife Yoshi, Baird Kaake and wife Ellen, Shannon Kaake, and Marika Burke. She will be deeply missed by her cherished grandchildren, Megan Kaake, Moss Burke, Luna Kaake, and Taiyo Kaake.
Pat is also survived by her loving cousins, Carol Ann Norris, Bob Norris, Bonnie Norris, brother-in-law Bill Kaake, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her remarkable life will be held in the early Summer. Pat's memory will forever remain a beacon of light in the lives of those she influenced and loved.
