Otis V. Preston, 87, of State Route 36, passed away peacefully on Thursday (February 22, 2018) at Elderwood Nursing Home in North Hornell.



Born in North Hornell, May 29, 1930, the son of Otis M. and Flossie M. (Behn) Preston Whitney he was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Alfred Almond Central School "Class of 1949". He served the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953, and while serving was a motor sergeant. Otis was retired from Conway (formerly known as Penn Yan Express) as a tractor trailer driver. He was a member of the Arkport American Legion, the Hornell VFW, and a life member of the Canaseraga Fire Department. Otis had several hobbies, but family was his main focus.



He was predeceased by his parents, 2 daughters Robyn Preston, Vicky Sue Preston, a brother Merton Preston, and a grandson Zachary Wallenbeck.



He is survived by his wife Mary Hilsdorf Preston, whom he married on July 28, 1951, his daughter Lauri (Douglas) Wallenbeck of Ithaca, 3 sons Mark (Mari Steffensmeier) Preston of CA, Randy Preston of KY, Scott Preston of Campbell, 4 grandchildren Geoffrey Preston, Matthew Preston, Derek Preston, Zoey Wallenbeck, 2 great grandchildren Alex Preston, and Isaac Preston his brothers Drexel "Keever" (Marlene) Preston of Canaseraga, Gerald (Holly) Preston of MA, sister Beverly (William) Raub, and several nieces nephews, and special family friend Mark Coddington of Howard.



The family will be present to receive friends and family on Sunday (February 25, 2018) from 2-4pm, with a funeral service, military honors and a fire department service at 4:00pm with Pastor Jesse Flint officiating. Burial will be at Heritage Hills Cemetery in Arkport at the convenience of the family.
