Newell A. Butler, 82, of
109 Front St, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family,Thursday (July 3, 2008)at McAuley ManorBorn in the town of Canisteo, March 26, 1926, a son of Loul and Mabel Covell Butler, Nate was alife long resident of the Canisteo, Hornell area .
Newell served his country during WW2, in the US Army ,stationed in Italy
He had been employed by the former
Erie Lackawanna Rail Road retiring in 1986 with 34 1/2years of service. After Nate retired, he was employed by Andy Butler and SonGeneral Contractors .
On Feb.14, 1948Nate married his wife, Betty J. VosburgButler who survives.
He was a member of the Hornell VFW, and an avid deer hunter,enjoyed making maple syrup, but the thing Newell enjoyed the most, and was knownfor was his care and expertise with his garden.
He was predeceased by a son, James Butler in 1999, grandsonsShane Andrew Butler in 1981, and MarkAndrew Butler in 2002, two brothers, Charles and Glen Butler.
In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by twodaughters: Beverly (Jerry) Bertram, ofCanisteo, Barbara (Pete) McMichael, of Almond ,three sons: Andrew " Andy" (Pat)Butler, of Hornell, Richard " Rich"(Diane) Butler, of Hornell and Chad Butlerof Corning, six sisters: Ida Hults, ofHornell, Mary Campbell, of Canisteo, Ethel(" Pete " James) Sanford, of Canisteo, Ella O'Dell, and Blanch ( Glenn) Campbell, both of Greenwood and Shirley (Robert) Ross, of N.J. one brother: Duane Butler, of Cameron, and brother-in-law,Gerald "Jiggs" (Phyllis) Vosburg of VA.
10 Grand children: Cathy (Ken) Baker, Christopher Bertram,Amy and Paul Butler, Nicole and Brian Butler, Cliff (Bria)and Curk McMichael, Andrea (Randy) Smith and Amanda Butler.
8 Great Grand Children: Kelsie andCallie Baker, Robert Butler and Liam Mulhollen,Kennedy and Devyn Butler, Riley Butler and Haylee Smith.

354 Canisteo St, Monday ( July 7, 2008) from 2-4PM and 7-9 pm where Funeral services will be held , at 11:00 AM Tuesday with Rev David Kilgore officiating.Burial will be in Hornell Rural Cemetery.
