Michael F Tierney Sr., 68, of
21 East Washington Street, passed awayunexpectedly Friday (July 6,2007) at his home.
Born in Hornell, August 27, 1938, the son of James and Rose (Skebey) Tierney, he had been a lifelong area resident. He had attended St Ann's School and graduated from HornellHigh School Class of 1957. Mike had served in the US Marine Corps for six yearsincluding tours of duty in Japan ,The Mediterranean Sea, and Cuba during the Cuban Missle Crisis. He was a communicantof St Ignatius Loyola Church a member of the American Legion Post 440, anda life member of the Veterans of ForeignWars JJ Mooney Post 2250. Mike had been employed at SKF Industries, St JamesMercy Hospital and retired from the City of Hornell as Chief operator of the FilterPlant.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Daniel andRev. James Tierney .
He is survived by a daughter Kimberly Tierney of PortsmouthVA, a son Michael (Kelli) Tierney of Arkport, sisterMaryAnn (Terrence) Fennelly of Canadaigua,brothers John "Jack" (Marilyn) Tierney of Hornell and William (Marjorie)Tierney of Arkport, grandchildren Alisha Tierney ofManlius, Michael Tierney and Corrine Tierney of Arkport .
The family will be present 2-4 & 7-9 PM Tuesday, at the Bender - Brown &Powers Funeral Home,
354 CanisteoSt, Hornell.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Ignatius Loyola Church onWednesday, at 11:00 AM. A private graveside service will be at the Bath National Cemetery, and a luncheonwill be immediately following the Mass at the VFW Hall.
