Michael D. Henry, 66, of 5144 Purdy Creek Road, passed away Sunday (May 1, 2016) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.



Born in Hornell, January 27, 1950, the son of Adrian and Agnes Stewart Henry, he had resided in the Canisteo area all his life. He was a graduate of Canisteo Central School , the Class of 1971. He had been employed at the former General Marble in Hornell and later for TTA also in Hornell.

Mike was a member of the Canisteo Wesleyan Church, current President of the Hartsville Center Cemetery Association, and Dog Control Officer for the past 26 years for the Town of Hartsville. Mike enjoyed all animals and was an avid hunter, He enjoyed raising animals and managing his small farm.



He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter, Michelle Henry, his son, David Matacale, his two sisters, Marjorie Hughes, and Catherine Forester, as well as his brother Levi Henry.



He is survived by his wife, Sherry Bovee Henry to whom he was married March 23, 1974, two daughters, Mary (Jason) Whitesell of Rexville and Marsha Henry of Hornell, two sons, Steven (Wendy) Matacale of Hartsville and Michael (Holly) Henry of Rexville, three sisters, Sharon Warren of Bath, Linda (Clayton) Towner of Hornell, and Patty (Fred) Bulkley of Bath, two brothers, Ronald (Marilyn) Henry of Florida and Verne (Jeanette) Henry of Canisteo, 10 grandchildren, Rachel (Doug) Sciorra, Bradley Matacale, Aaron Whitesell, Bryanna Whitesell, Anika Henry-Smith, Adriana Henry-Smith, Juanita Irizarry and Joaquin Irizarry, Ava Henry and Garrett Henry, two great grandchildren, Douglas and Olivia Sciorra, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday from 1 PM until 3 PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce Street in Canisteo where funeral services will follow calling hours at 3 PM. Rev. Donald Maynard will officiate. Burial will be in Hartsville Center Cemetery.
