Mervin A. Spicer, 91, formerly of
Thacher Street,passed away Sunday (July 20. 2008) at the Hornell Gardens.
Born in Hornell, August 14, 1916, the son ofHarry A. and Alice May Fenton Spicer, hehad resided in Wisconsin and Maryland for many years before returning to Hornellin 1985. He had been employed for the United States Government as a dieselmechanic for the sanitation department in Washington,DC, for 22 years. He was a memberof the First Baptist Church of Hornell, VFW Post 2250, and the Hornell AmericanLegion Post. Mervin served his country as a member of the United States Armyfrom 1942 until 1945.
He was predeceased by his parents and long time companion,Gloria Clark.
He is survived by one daughter: Alice Canfield of North Carolina, two sonsLeon Spicer of Hartwick, and William (Louise) Spicerof Hornell, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, special friends, Sue Green and RoseTeller both of Hornell.
The family will be presentto receive friends on Wednesday from 4 PM until 6 PMat the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home,
