Mervin L. Babcock, 95, of 24 South Main Street, passed away Monday (May 27, 2013)at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville.
Born in the Town Of Alfred, June 20, 1917, the son of Henry and H. Grace( Rossman) Babcock, he had resided in Almond all his life. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Hornell, a 60 year member of University Lodge #230 F&AM, as well as a 75 year member of the Almond Grange #1102. Mervin had been employed at the former Corbin Wood Products of Hornell and retired from the custodial department at the Alfred College of Ceramics. He was a graduate of the former Almond High School, Class of 1936. Mervin will be remembered for his love of family and farming and especially the Charolais breed of cattle.
He was predeceased by his wife, Anna( Coats) Babcock in 1998, and one brother, Elwin Babcock.
He is survived by his daughter, Darlene (Timothy) Jobes of Hilton, and one son, Brian (Jayne) Babcock of Almond, his brother and sister in law, Steve and Dixie Coats of Mt. Morris, 6 grandchildren; Melissa Jobes, Theresa Jobes, Jeremie Jobes, Robert Lounsberry, Jasmine Lounsberry and Alexandria Lounsberry, 2 great grandchildren, Lela Clark and Wyatt Gardner, and his extended family, Gary "Gus" and Cindy Thompson of Canisteo, several nieces & nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. University Lodge will conduct a Masonic Memorial Service on Thursday at 7PM at the funeral home. The Almond Grange will also hold a Grange service at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 AM with Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Almond.
