Matthew James came into this world in an ambulance and has enjoyed driving ever since. Especially in his 1994 Ford Taurus, which predeceased him in 2023.
He loved animals and we know he was greeted by many cats on the other side, with Lulu at the front of the line.
He took his childhood love of sea life into adulthood as a marine biologist and has been working for the DEC in the NYC area for more than 10 years. Matthew is described as a thoughtful colleague who loved making maps compiling geographical information from multiple sources to help save critical wetland habitats and was happy to share his prowess with his coworkers.
He was a fan of Star Wars, amphibians, whales and sharks and enjoyed all of the word games, every single one.
He left this world ahead of his family: Janet Robinson + Michael Evans of Swain; Lloyd James of Nunda; Bethany (James) + Dan Puffer of Arcade; many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Matthew was an avid Bills fan and if you share that love, wear your Bills gear to his celebration of life party on what would have been his 40th birthday on 12/6/25.
Service will begin at 1pm in the Shawmut Room at Swain Resort, Swain, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to https://bios.asu.edu/support-us where Matthew did a semester abroad and enjoyed his hands on experience very much.
