Mary Ella Kernan, 85, of 16 Eighth Street, passed away Saturday (December 5, 2015) at St James Mercy Hospital.



Born in Hornell, NY, June 21, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Bessie Knight Wilson, she had resided in Canisteo all her life. Mary Ella had worked at the former Westinghouse Plant in Bath, Marion Rohr's in Hornell, and retired as a dishwasher at the Texas Cafe´ in Hornell.



She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canisteo and will be remembered for knitting gifts for other people, eating out, telling stories, but most of all for the love she showed to her family.



She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Donald Wilson, David Wilson Sr., and LeRoy Wilson, as well as her sister Martha Hults.



She is survived by her husband, John Kernan of Canisteo with whom she would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on the 31st of this month, one daughter, Robin Ritenburg of Hornell, and one son, Robert (Durene) Kernan of Cameron Mills, 9 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo on Wednesday from 4 until 6 PM at which time Funeral services will be held with Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.
