Mary E. Campbell, 83, of 4260 County Route 21, went to be with her Lord on Saturday (March 10, 2012) surrounded by her family at Rochester General Hospital following a short illness.



Born in Canisteo, April 8, 1928, the daughter of Lowell and Mabel Covell Butler, she had resided in the Canisteo area nearly all her life. She had been employed at Marion Rohr's in Hornell and was an Avon salesperson in the area for over 50 years. Mary and her husband were avid square dancers, and she enjoyed gardening, house plants, cooking, baking, and yard sales, but most of all, Mary will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a member of the West Jasper Wesleyan Church.



She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Hugh "Bertie" Campbell in 2007, her daughter, Donna Sanford in 2004, as well as her brothers; Glen Butler in 1997, Charles Butler in 2001; Newell Butler in 2008, Duane Butler in 2010, and her sisters, Ella O'Dell in 2009 and Ethel Sanford in 2010.



She is survived by her daughters, Darlene (Dan) Farrand of Addison, and Christine (David) Waters of Greenwood, her son, John( Debra) Campbell of Cameron, her son-in-law, William Sanford Jr., of Cameron, 3 sisters, Ida Hults of Hornell, Blanche (Glenn) Campbell of Rexville, and Shirley (Robert) Ross of Guilford, 7 grandchildren; Edward (Tammy) O'Konski of Farmington, Jennifer O'Konski of North Carolina, Mike Waters of Greenwood, Brandon (Victoria) Sanford of Corning, Shawn Teator of Virginia, Steven (Kate) Teator of Virginia and Jody (Dan) Barnett of Hornell, 12 great grandchildren; Nicholas, Tyler, Julia, Kaleb, Keagan, Hunter,Dakota, Danny, Annissa, Ethan, Joey and Aubrey as well as several nieces & nephews. Hugh and Mary were honored to raise Mary's brothers and sisters; Charles Butler, Glen Butler, Duane Butler, Ella Butler O'Dell and Blanche Butler Campbell as their own.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Rev. Brian Diffenbacher will officiate. Burial will be in Gulley Cemetery, Town Of Jasper.
